Violist and a conductor Vuokko Lahtinen feels at home both with chamber music repertoire as well as symphonic literature. Her core values as a musician is to strengthen the role of the arts as a part of society and improve its accessibility for all the social classes.
Chamber music has brought Lahtinen all over the world, from Svalbard to the Loire Valley in France, from the peaks of Luosto to the Kumaus-festival in Lappeenranta. She has also performed contemporary music with, among others, the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra and NYKY Ensemble.
As a conductor Lahtinen has cooperated with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Lahti, Jyväskylä Sinfonia, Tapiola Sinfonietta and Kymi Sinfonietta. In the coming autumn Lahtinen will finish her studies together with Oulu Sinfonia. Lahtinen loves contemporary music and has conducted the Tampere Raw -ensemble in Tampere-talo and at the Kitara Nova -festival. She has enjoyed fruitful cooperation with composers such as Lotta Wennäkoski, Jukka Tiensuu and Pasi Lyytikäinen.
Multidisciplinary work is very important to Lahtinen. In the spring of 2023, she participated in a performance which combined theatre, Ukrainian contemporary music, and sonic arts in the Helsinki Music Centre in collaboration with Ukrainian Children’s Theater Kalambur, as well as organizing an orchestral concert for the Red Cross and Helsinki Mission.
