Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, the largest symphony orchestra in Eastern Finland, maintains the more than one-hundred-year orchestral tradition of Kuopio. The orchestra’s 44 musicians represent over ten nationalities.
Most concerts take place in the esteemed Concert Hall of the Kuopio Music Centre, but the orchestra also brings music to audiences around the region. Audience outreach is an important part of the orchestra’s mission. Alongside the classical orchestral repertoire, the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra crosses genre boundaries and collaborates with artists from entertainment, pop, and rock music.
In August 2025, Kolja Blacher and Eugene Tzigane were appointed as the orchestra’s First Conductors, and Atso Almila continues as the Second Conductor. The orchestra has performed internationally in countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Japan, and China, and has recorded for Finlandia Records, Octavia Records, and Alba Records.
