Violist Saara Kurki has graduated with a master’s in music from the Stockholm Royal Conservatory in Edsberg, where she studied with Malin Broman. At the moment, she is continuing her studies at the Sibelius Academy with Atte Kilpeläinen and performing as a freelance musician around Finland.
Kurki has worked as substitute solo viola with the Lapland Chamber Orchestra, as well as substitute Principal Viola in the Tampere Philharmonic. She has also performed with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic, Tapiola Sinfonietta, and Avanti! Chamber Orchestra. A new project will see Kurki at the National Theater in spring of 2023, performing in the production of “Young Idealists”, which contains music for harp and viola by Juhani Nuorvala.
In 2017, Kurki was awarded second prize in the Tampere National Viola Competition in Finland and performed as a soloist with Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. In the autumn of 2020, she played as a soloist with the Academy Woodwinds orchestra.
Kurki is an active and passionate chamber musician and has performed in several festivals in Finland such as the Crusell festival, Avanti! suvisoitto, Aino Ackté Chamber Festival, Luosto soi! and Kamarikesä. Kurki plays a 1722 Maussiel viola kindly loaned by the OP Art Foundation.
