The Sounds of Luosto! festival will be held 29.7-1.8.2021 on the fells of Luosto and Pyhä, as well as in downtown Sodankylä. The program features a variety of chamber, orchestral, and solo performances.
The four day classical music festival will offer a program covering over 900 years of music history. The program includes works from 27 composers.
The festival features a blend of rarely heard works and famous classics. Among the composers featured are notable Finnish talents Kaija Saariaho, Minna Leinonen, Kalevi Aho, and Jean Sibelius.
The main event of the four day festival will be a concert held on the unique outdoor stage built directly into the slopes of Ukko-Luosto. The festival has also been granted use of the 330 year-old wood church of Sodankylä for use in concerts.
The organizing body of Sounds of Luosto festival is Kuusikko soi –association.
The association promotes the possibilities to experience classical and other forms of musical events in Lapland as well as more broadly in Finland.
The main event is the annual Sounds of Luosto –festival that caters to both Finnish and international audiences. The first festival will be held in the summer of 2020.
The association has also organized other concerts. The programming has strongly reflected Beethoven’s 250th anniversary. In addition to the above, the association also strives to bring the musical experience to the audiences. Examples of such have been free home concerts, enrichment lectures, primary school events, care facility and restaurant concerts.
